Many folks who read my blog are former students from a life coaching certification course where I teach. If you’re one of my students, “Hi, I’m so glad you’re here!” I teach two classes, one on powerful questioning and one on the 5D conversation model. Quite honestly, it’s one of my favorite things to do. The students are highly engaged, and their minds are sponges.
I come alive when I’m leading a group through compelling content, and there are questions and conversations. I get excited by different perspectives and when I can learn from the group. Being a leader in a room with an audience of 1 or 10,000 is my genius zone.
You’ll Hear Lots of People’s Ideas for Your Business.
I’m telling you that because you’re going to get a ton of advice. You’ll hear things like you’ve got to have an online course; you’ve got to get on social media, post daily; you’ve got to create a FB group; write a blog; start a podcast…it is exhausting. I know, I’ve been there.
I have spent THOUSANDS of dollars on advice to build my business. And what I found, just like in coaching that people give advice from their perspective, from their map of the world. And because it worked for them, if we simply follow it exactly as they lay it out, it should work for us too. But their ideas for my business never felt like a perfect fit for me.
Follow their Plan
I have heard this so many times, and on some level, I believe it. But when I get into their plan, there’s something that makes me think, “Hold up, you want me to do what?”
You see, I’m not interested in posting on social media every day. I don’t want to give money to FB for ads. Hanging out in FB groups ready to share my thoughts and advice sounds exhausting. I don’t want to be slipping into people’s DM’s on IG.
Hear me out; I am not slamming any of these tactics. They are all GREAT tactics that can work to help build your following. I know because I’ve watched people do wonderfully well doing these things. And I will support you to the ends of the earth if you come to me and say this is what I want to do to build my business.
But if you’re like me and wondering, is there any other way I can do this? The answer is: Yes.
Finding My Own Plan
About a month ago, I realized I was burned out on social media. I was not finding any fun in it. And if Mama Moffs (that’s me) isn’t having fun, things have got to switch up.
Remember what I shared with you at the top of this blog post? Teaching, facilitating workshops, and speaking are all a part of my genius zone. I thought, “how could I do more of that on topics that I enjoy?”
Inspiration struck! What if I were to do a monthly series of bite-sized workshops? I’ve delivered close to a thousand workshops in the corporate space. Companies pay a ton of money for these things. What if I took my favorite topics and reshaped them for the individual consumer?
As soon as I formed the question, I took action and set a date. Moffitt Talks Live was born.

What’s Your Genius Zone?
I’m sharing this with you because a) I’d love for you to join me on the 24th, but more importantly, b) I want you to consider what is your genius zone?
There is no one way to build your business. And while there will be plenty of people telling you they have the perfect thing for your business, the ideal thing may be for you to lean into your strengths.
Do you love writing? You could start a blog, write on Medium, perhaps look for opportunities to guest blog for other people.
Do you love speaking? You could stay on top of your skills by doing FB Lives, IG Lives, or get on TikTok and share your smarts. You can start a podcast or gather three other coaches together and do an online event. (Check out https://hopin.com/ for an online event. And https://anchor.fm/ if you want to start a podcast. Do you just want to coach? You could provide pro-bono sessions and ask to record the sessions (giving the client final approval to use) and post samples of your coaching to your website or Youtube.
All of this to say, if you’re feeling like jumping on social media, posting every day, creating ads sounds exhausting, I get it. Instead, check-in with yourself and find YOUR genius zone and follow that.
