Two Powerful Words to Improve Your Relationships Both at Home and Work

We all have this need to be seen; why just this weekend at Super Bowl LV, the directors put over 30,000 cutouts of fans in the seats so players could feel like they had someone watching them.

We have a human need for important people in our lives to see us. To know that they value us, that we belong.

If you have kids, you’ve no doubt have heard them desperately cry…

“Look at me, look at me, Daddy!”

“Look at me, Mommy, look at me, look at me!!”

They’re not doing anything but tying their shoes or jumping off a curb. But they just want you, the most important people in their world, to see them, to value their accomplishments.

Now, of course, we get conditioned out of this somewhere in life. We can’t as adults walk around and ask people to watch us.

“Hey, Linda, my friend, look at me, I’m sipping my coffee” or “Hey, honey, look at me, I’m folding these clothes.”

But we still have this need to be seen.

This need shows up in our relationships and the workplace.

A study conducted by the Corporate Leadership Council showed a 30% increase in employees’ productivity when they feel their managers are knowledgeable about their work.

Today I’m sharing with you two words that can change your relationships both at work and home. It’s an embarrassingly simple tactic and yet, rarely used.

What I learned from 30 Days of Yoga

In January, I took on the 2021 30 Day Yoga Journey with Adriene. Every day I showed up on the mat and took a time-lapse video.

A few days felt harder to get the mat, but I showed up and honored the commitment. It’s a continued practice of a little bit every day.

Watch this video to hear a bit more. Perhaps it might be something you want to try for yourself. Adriene has several years’ worth of 30 Day Journeys, all for free on her YouTube channel.

The Power of Knowing Who You Want to Coach

It has become crystal clear that I want to coach people who have a sense of humor.

I know personal development can be challenging. It can feel like hard work to examine our mental blocks. It also feels incredibly vulnerable.

At least it does for me whenever I work with a coach.

But there can also be joy in discovery when possibilities open up, and perceptions shift.

That’s not to say that every session will be a laugh riot; or that I won’t hold space for the fears and insecurities that are shared.

But as a coach, I’ve found that I work better in playful energy.

It’s taken a while to get to this level of clarification, but it’s been helpful for my prospective clients and me because playful energy isn’t for everyone.

And that’s okay!!

If you’re a coach, you’ll hear a lot of messaging about niching down and knowing the problems you want to help solve. That can be super helpful in marketing.

But as you begin to coach, take stock in the type of people who light YOU up. And yes, you can coach anyone. But that doesn’t mean you’ll want to.

Building a coaching business takes time and effort; surround yourself with people who fuel you.
